Chapin was established in the mid 1700’s and named after its founder, Martin Chapin. According to Lexington County Courthouse, when land was being purchased for the future Lake Murray, more than half of the properties were owned by Martin Chapin. County records show he purchased 4,218 acres in the Chapin area.Martin Chapin gave right of way to the Railway which over the years would have a tremendous impact on the communities.
The Lake is one of the grandest assets Chapin has to offer. Chapin is also known as the Community with Character, located halfway between the mountains and the beach; I-26, I-20 and I-77 are all close making your trips to either approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, great for weekend get-a-ways!
